New Year resolutions

Is there something harder than compelling every single New Year's resolution? I know I never succeed! At least, not all of them. Last year I could fulfill one (keeping regular postings on my blog), but before it was March I had pretty much given up on the rest. And I think I know why. Keep on reading and let me know if you agree. I believe that, when it comes to New Year's resolutions, we definitely set our goal way too high. For example, last year I said I wanted to lose 10 kilos (I guess I was carrying some holiday weight. I don't remember...). Days passed, then they became weeks, and months... it was already spring and my weight was still experiencing its ups and downs... so I said that's it". I gave up, and I crossed the resolution from my list. However, I still managed to lose a good 5 kilos during the spring and the summer. Did I fail? Or was it that I was going for an unrealistic goal from the beginning? This year, I decided to make a change. I have split my resolutions in four parts each (one for each trimester), so I can keep up and, in the worst of events, I still won't lose all the resolution, but just a part, in case I'm late with my schedule. As the Romans would say, divide and conquer! By the way, I read somewhere that it was the Romans who came up with all the New Year's resolutions and stuff. I wonder if they could accomplish their better than we do today, and I guess not. For example,

New year's Resolution #1: Lose weight (10 kilos)

1. Cut down sugar by eating only fruit for dessert. 2. Go for a 50 minute walk at last three times a week. 3. Join the gym and attend twice a week –maybe give up walking as the weather gets hotter. 4. Attend a third time at the gym. Oh, and another thing: I'm going for just five resolutions. They are easy to keep track off, and they are much less than last year (when I would make the scary number of... 30!). This also is meant to set for a realistic goal.

So without further delay, I leave you with my New Year's resolutions for 2011!

1. Lose weight as always, LOL 2. Make contact with my old friends from school with Facebook, I have no more excuses! 3. Learn to play a musical instrument I've got an old guitar in my basement that is asking to be played! 4. Read at least four great books I'm not very fond on reading, but I wish this would change, and I believe setting this goal may really get me to gain a new habit. 5. Start doing some volunteer work. Well, that's it! I really hope I can make it this time! How about you? What are your resolutions for 2011? Happy New Year!
